Iowa Housing Recovery Fund Resources

Do you (or someone you know) need help paying rent, utility, or mortgage bills due to COVID-19?

An online application for financial assistance is available at The website includes a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for renters, homeowners, and Iowans at risk of homelessness as well as information on rent/utility payment relief, foreclosure avoidance, eviction, and regaining rental housing. Details on some of the assistance available can be found below:

  • Renters – Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program
    • Assistance with Rent Payments
      Past due payments: Available for payments of costs incurred no earlier than March 13, 2020.
      Future payments: May apply for up to three months of future rental assistance at a time.
    • Assistance with Utility Payments
      For electricity, natural gas, propane or fuel oil, water, sewer and/or trash removal. Available for utility payments of costs incurred no earlier than March 13, 2020. Payments will be made directly to landlords and utility service providers.
  • Homeowners – Iowa Homeowner Foreclosure Prevention Program
    • Assistance with Mortgage
      Up to $3,600 for past due and future payments (4 months maximum).
  • Legal Assistance
    • If you are at imminent risk of foreclosure and need legal assistance, Iowa Legal Aid may be able to assist you at no cost.
