Greater Iowa City, Inc., the Community Foundation of Johnson County, and United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties have partnered to co-create a community Board Leadership Program (BLP) to prepare community members to serve as board members for local nonprofit organizations. BLP is a 6-month education series for individuals with professional or volunteer experience, preparing them to serve as confident and effective board members for local nonprofit organizations. Participants will receive training, broaden their professional networks, and learn about opportunities for service in the greater Iowa City area. The program will cover basic board service topics such as: Governance, Nonprofit Finance 101, Fundraising, Advocacy, Equity and Inclusion, and Strategic Planning.
“Serving on a nonprofit board, especially for the first time, can be intimidating,” explains Shelly Maharry, President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Johnson County. “The Board Leadership Program has been designed to allow participants to gain essential skills, insights, and connections to confidently jumpstart their journey into board service.”

Applications for the Board Leadership Program will be open from August 1st – 30th on the Greater Iowa City, Inc. website at greateriowacity.com/board-leadership-program.
